We are walkers and cyclists ourselves and are accredited by Visit Britain as giving a welcome to cyclists and walkers. We can give you tips on the route of the Cleveland Way and suggest walks in the North York Moors, the Wolds and along the coast and can suggest places for all kinds of cycling – mountain bikes, road bikes, touring bikes – in the area (including bike hire and guided rides). We’ve got plenty of maps, guide and walk books that you can borrow too.
We have drying facilities and secure indoor bike storage, plus a track pump, tools and other equipment.
We are just 100 metres from the route of National Cycle Network Route 1, which is also part of the North Sea Cycle Route (which follows coastal routes in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Scotland and England). NCN Route 1 links Dover to the Shetland Isles, with the section near us coming from Hull through the East Yorkshire Wolds, and north from Scarborough along the cinder track to Whitby – both very enjoyable rides.
The Waves is also a short stroll up the cliff paths (or ride in the funicular railway if it’s been a long trek from Robin Hood’s Bay) from the route of the Cleveland Way. The Cleveland Way National Trail is a long distance walk around the North York Moors, starting in Helmsley and finishing in Filey – guides to the route tend to have a stage from Robin Hood’s Bay to Scarborough, and then a shorter last day from Scarborough to Filey. (There are regular buses and trains from Filey back to Scarborough so we’d recommend coming back to Scarborough for a night of celebration before heading home… of course we would.)
We should mention too that although we are very cycle and walker friendly, unfortunately it isn’t always practical for us to offer single night stays during the busier times of year, which won’t always help you if you are touring. Please give us a call if the booking system is showing a minimum night stay and we will see if we can work something out.
