We love a good breakfast.  We like to have a choice too.  And we want having breakfast at The Waves to put you in a good mood and set you up for the day – like being in your favourite breakfast café.

We concentrate on using organic, free range and local ingredients.  Our fantastic traditional Yorkshire breakfast uses award-winning local free range sausages and bacon and free range eggs from local happy hens.  We have a Full Veggie option and other vegetarian and vegan choices.  We have waffles, veggie frittata, a super superfood smoothie, and more.  See below for an idea of what’s on offer for breakfast.

We should mention our home-baked bread and creamy organic porridge that porridge experts*  (* ie, some guests who like porridge) have said is ‘the best porridge ever’.  If you’re looking for a mythical bowl of porridge to match the porridge you had on a camping trip in 1967, or whatever your dream porridge experience was, we think we’re going to come as close as it’s possible to get.

We also offer vegan porridge and other vegan choices, and gluten free bread and will always try to make sure that anyone with special dietary requirements still has a good choice for breakfast so please let us know if you want to check any allergen requirements.

The Waves’ Breakfast Suppliers

We want you to have a fantastic breakfast – from a full English Breakfast (we call it the Yorkshire Breakfast because the main ingredients are locally produced) to real coffee and toast. So, we’ve chosen some of the best suppliers of quality ingredients in the area.  As well as using local ingredients we concentrate on using organic and fair trade produce.

We use free range bacon and sausages from Gladvic Farm at Potter Brompton – you’ll see their Trotters Farm Shop, and the pigs, by the A64. The technical requirement for free range meat is that the animals must live outside for only a few weeks, but the pigs at Gladvic Farm are genuinely free range, living outside all the time and the quality shows in the bacon and award winning sausages they produce.

Our free range eggs come from local happy hens.

Creamy porridge is made with organic oats from J Stringer and Sons in the Yorkshire Wolds, and they supply the organic Wolds Breakfast muesli which is also made from their organic oats.  We make our own wholemeal bread with organic flour from Stringers too – grown and milled in the Yorkshire Wolds.  Our home made oatmeal and raisin cookies use Stringer’s flour and oats.

We’d like to say that the hash browns we use are local because McCain have a big factory near Scarborough, but the hash browns are made at their factory in Wombourne – by Wombles probably.

We use Yorkshire Tea from Taylor’s of Harrogate, local ground coffee from Baytown Coffee in Robin Hoods Bay and a selection of other fair trade and organic drinks.

Tables, Crockery and Furniture

Our crockery was made for us by Jill Christie at Wold Pottery, which started in the Wolds but is now based in Loftus, north of Whitby, where she has a lovely shop full of pottery and other crafty stuff.  The pottery, and many other arty things, is also available from Bland’s Cliff Gallery in Scarborough which is on a little lane that runs from the Foreshore, by the Futurist Theatre, up to town.

The dining tables, and the console table in the hall plus the ‘slice of a tree’ bed headboards and bedside blocks, were made for us by Trunk Reclaimed in Morpeth.  They’ve also done tables for Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsey and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall… and, well, they know a table when they see one.  The table legs were reclaimed from an old Co-Op in Galashiels –  if you look at how straight the legs are you’ll see why they had to knock it down. The table tops are joists from a house in Newcastle – the family who live there keep asking for them back.

The pictures in the dining room are by local artists and their work can often be seen at Coast Gallery in Cloughton.
