Suppliers

We want you to have a fantastic breakfast – from a full English Breakfast (we call it the Yorkshire Breakfast because all the main ingredients are locally produced) to real coffee and toast. So, we’ve chosen some of the best suppliers of quality ingredients in the area:

We use free range bacon and sausages from Gladvic Farm at Potter Brompton – you’ll see their Trotters Farm Shop, and the pigs, by the A64. The technical requirement for free range meat is that the animals must live outside for only a few weeks, but the pigs at Gladvic Farm are genuinely free range, living outside all the time and the quality shows in the bacon and award winning sausages that they produce.

Our free range eggs come from Winkfield Eggs whose chickens are free to wander on their farm just north of Scarborough at Harwood Dale.

Organic marmalade and jams are from the Camphill Village Trust at Botton Village in Danby near Whitby.

Creamy porridge is made with the small sweet organic oats from J Stringer and Sons in the Yorkshire Wolds, and they also supply the organic Wolds Breakfast muesli. Organic flour for the bread we make ourselves comes from Stringer's too. Our home made otameal and raisin cookies use Stringer's flour and oats.

Muffins are baked in a wood fired stove at Jo Wright's Boundary Cottage eco bakery in Burniston just north of Scarborough.

Chilli Jam is from the Yorkshire Farmer's Market and the Mango Chutney that we serve with the Veggie Kedgie is home made at Yazl Surabhi, a specialist Indian food shop in Scarborough.

We’d like to say that the hash browns we use are local because McCain have a big factory near Scarborough, but the hash browns are made at their factory in Wombourne – by Wombles probably.

We use Yorkshire Tea from Taylor’s of Harrogate, fair trade coffee and a selection of other fair trade and organic drinks, including organic apple juice from Botton Village.

Tables, Crockery and Furniture

Our crockery was made for us by Jill Christie at Wold Pottery, which started in the Wolds but is now based in Loftus, north of Whitby.

Our dining tables and other furniture, including our 'slice of a tree trunk' bed head boards, were made for us by Trunk Reclaimed in Morpeth. They've also done tables for Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsey and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall... and well, they know a table when they see one.

The pictures in the dining room are from South Cliff Gallery on South Street not far from The Waves.
